Is Microsoft’s new “Avoid Ghetto” app racist?

Microsoft has a new app for smartphones, “avoid ghetto.”  Well that’s not actually the application’s name, but many are applying the name because the application targeted to pedestrians takes alerts a user when he/she is near an area high in crime.  The application uses crime statistics and other data to generate a map for the user in order to avoid certain areas.  Ofcourse, an application like this is definitely causing a stir.  Microsoft developers shot back that the application is needed because many pedestrians need the information when traveling because they are not in the safety of a car.  While others, such as Claudio Cabrera at TheRoot.com who retorts, this  application is “absolutely ludicrous.”  Whatever side you’re on, this application will be hitting the markets.  So mediamyxxers, tell me what you think!
