CW has recently purchased the Canadian soap-opera The LA Complex and will be premiring the already produced 6 episodes here in the US in the spring or summer of 2012. The LA complex, from the producers of Degrassi, follows the lives actors living in an LA apartment building and the ups and downs of trying to make it in Hollywood. Sound familiar? While the plot is not that awe-inspiring, there is one storyline that will surely grab the attention of American viewers; a down low hip hop artist, Kaldrick King (Andra Fuller) artist and his struggle to hide the down low relationship he is having with production assistant Tariq (Benjamin Watson). After viewing the first season of the LA complex, the show is a bit cookie cutter except for this storyline, which should truly open some dialogue about homosexuality in hip hop.
