R.I.P. Donna Summer

Last week the world lost another icon as disco queen Donna Summer died as a result of lung cancer. The shocking news took the industry by storm as no one but her immediate family even knew she was dealing the deadly disease. Many celebrities have publicly honored the icon and the Billboard Awards this previous Sunday attempted to pay homage to her but didn’t have the proper talent to do so. It seems like we are continuing to lose our greats. We are Mediamyxx would like to send our condolences to her family and friends. She will be missed.

A Tale of Two Politicians

President Barack Obama reveled in an interview with Robin Roberts that he supports the rights of gay americans to get married. This revelation is not only the most tweeted of all time but has set the President on a risky course for his re-election. Mitt Romney on the other hand revealed his stance on marriage as one man, one woman while speaking at Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University. The topic took flight after North Carolinians shameless vote to not allow gays to marry within the state. The state foolishly allow themselves to become the poster child for bigotry while giving the movement all that is needed to finally take this fight to the Supreme Court. While mainstream media believes this stance will hurt Obama will black voters the president continues to support the rights of all Americans. Below we have the President’s Newsweek cover and tell us what you think about the gay marriage ban. Why does gay marriage offend so many in a time of 72-day marriages? One Love

For the second time this year Rita Ora has landed atop the UK charts. This time with her debut solo effort R.I.P featuring Tine Tempah. The song and video immediately made impact as the UK press began to refer to her as the UK’s answer to Rihanna, though an unfair comparison due to Rita’s soulful pipes the young Brit is starting to rack up number one singles. On the other side of the pond Rita’s single How We Do(Party) is tearing up the Pop charts and Rita is rising rapidly up pop Itunes. Congrats to Rita who celebrated her number one with dinner with her family and partying with her friends. We have the photo’s below of her celebratory night. Nas Brings his Daughter to Work

Nas shot the video for his awesome song Daughters last week and we can’t wait to see it. Nas calls up Chris Robinson to tell the story of how a little girl grows up in his tale of father/daughter relations. In surprising news Nas has his own daughter Destiny in the video, which is shocking because according to her mother via twitter she was distraught over the song putting out her business and touting him as not being around for his girl. Destiny either got over the drama extremely quickly or was never angry in the first place as she not only will be in the video but has decided to live with her father. I will Nas, Des and even Carmen the best. Look at the pictures below courtesy of the Big Homie over at Rap Radar and let us know what you think in comments or @mediamyxx @akireshenri

The Unprofessional

Rihanna ‘s performance on SNL was lackluster and while that is normal this time the media didn’t seem to give her the unusual benefit of the doubt. In an unusual show of honesty EW.com slammed the lifeless performance (which is normal) but they rated her  somewhere between Lana Del Rey’s narcoleptic gyrations and Ashlee Simpson’s infamous JigGate of 2004. Ouch that was rather brutal also chiming in was TMZ who reported Rihanna angered the SNL staff by not showing up to final rehearsals claiming to be sick even though she was out partying the entire week. Rihanna’s team swears she was sick and kept her from wasting her voice. If you have followed Rihanna you would know that Rihanna gets sick around scheduled performances a lot, last year she famously caught the flu right before a charity resulting in Donald Trump calling out the Bajan as she was well enough to party that evening taking shots with Jay-z and perform the next day for the NBA All -Star game. Rihanna also canceled a performance for the EIF cancer foundation for being “sick” but was able to make it to the Roc Nation brunch. This isn’t new to Rihanna and her team either she was citing as sick during her GGGB tour in Europe for venues she didn’t sale out but was able to attend a Prince concert .  We will see if Rihanna gets it together or continues to spiral out of control, so let us know what you think in comments or @mediamyxx @akireshenri

The Natasha Complex

On the second season of Sex and the City, Carrie famously had a Natasha Complex that ended with Natasha falling down a flight of stairs and breaking her tooth and Carrie breaking Aiden’s heart. Through the season Carrie bought shoes, laughed at grammatical errors, and snuck around with Natasha’s husband behind her back to hide the fact she didn’t feel she measured up to her. Carrie saw herself as the strong curly-haired girl who was too complex and complicated to be tied down vs Natasha the simple girl with straight hair who lacked to her in every way but beneath the facade she envied her effortless life. Beyoncé is that woman for the black community it seems, her entire existence is treated like an act of terrorism. If Beyoncé is honored with People Magazine’s most beautiful a magazine that comes out annually then we have to have discuss beauty in the black community, colorism and the very foundation of what is considered beautiful. When you question the reason you are immediately deemed a stan or making excuses for her “light-skin” privilege and reminded Beyoncé doesn’t represent true black beauty. Well before these women could recover from such a blow to the attack on the foundation of beauty, Beyoncé struck again this time getting awarded for a piece she wrote for Essence Magazine while promoting her album 4. Beyoncé is being rewarded for her piece Eat, Pray, Love and the warriors of black culture picked up their gun power and muskets and declared war on Beyoncé being honored. The majority of the comments  focused on Beyoncé’s hand written letter to Michelle Obama, the singer just thanked her for being a great role model but the sentence structure was not up to par and the comma splices were noticealbe . The letter was the equivalent of Carrie calling Miranda to brag, Natasha used their instead of there. From that moment everyone pulled out their education level to proclaim Beyonce is an idiot, tout education levels versus everyone else and the even though most articles were rife with grammatical errors themselves, the fact they could type something bad about Beyoncé seemed to make them happy. I am going to say this and be done with it, black women, black men, black people in general  need to get the FUCK over it. Beyoncé is a black woman, born to a black mother and father and she is not going anywhere. You cannot erase her, you cannot decided her level of blackness and you cannot dictate what is acceptable for her life. She left school to pursue her dream of being a grammy award winning singer and she has more than fullfilled her dreams. I am sick of the temper tantrums every single time she receives an award, or she leaves her house to go to her office or out to eat dinner. I also find it contradictary how black feminist are the biggest suppliers of the abuse she recives. Beyonce owns her own company, manages herself, has not been passed around the industry, has an all female band showcasing the talents of women but somehow that doesn’t matter. The other irony is that most that Beyonce seems to need a level of educatio despite her enormous success but you don’t hold her husband Jay-z to the same standards. Jay is amoung many males who have made his mark without and education. It That fact does not negate the many things he has accomplished and it doesn’t diminish what Beyonce has accmoplished either. If you find fault with the award then instead of dicecting Beyonce, her blonde hair, and her booty shaking moves just point your attention towards the organization. The  insecurities you show every time she is mentioned is beyond pathetic at this point and make you come off as the bitter bitches you claim is just a misrepresentation. Beyoncé fell down the steps the same way Natasha did and like Natasha she got back up and lived her life. After everything Carrie did Natasha went back to her plush life and Carrie still remained insecure and chasing after Big. If Beyoncé is not your cup of tea then , fine earth provides us with many flavors to choose from but  it is one thing to be critical of her art and something completely different to try to rip at the soul of another human being and that is where black media is with Beyoncé. From the skin lighting stories, the obsession with decision to wear blonde hair, and the stories of her faking a pregnancy you continue to take solace in trying to steal the joy of someone you do not know. I would like to open the floor to you guys what is the problem. Why does her existence hurt you so much, let us know in comments or @mediamyxx @akireshenri

Taste the Moment

Nicki Minaj kicks off her new Pepsi campaign as she is the new global embassador for the brand. In the commercial a couple takes a swig of Pespi and they get their moment for life. They transport globally before ending up at a Nicki Minaj concert of her singing the tune Moment for Life and looking just as awkward as ever. I have to say I am disappointed in the commercial, as Pepsi always has the best commercial and they are normally iconic. From the MJ , Madonna to the more recent Britney and Beyoncé they were always bigger than life. Watch the commercial below and tell us what you think in comments or @mediamyxx @akireshenri

Tardy to the Party:Tip Drill

While Rihanna may be crying ill for her awful performance on SNL, Rihanna clearly had no issue posting pictures on Instagram. She posted her earrings and bragged about being in fittings and she infamously played with strippers at Meek Mills birthday party. Rihanna tweeted about “Navi shit” and “Role Model” shit while making it rain on ratchet Players Clubesque strippers. Look at the pictures below and tell us what you think in comments or @mediamyxx @akireshenri
